Mitsubishi Chemical closes compounding plant in Michigan
Mitsubishi Chemical America Inc. has closed a compounding plant in Warren, Mich.
MCA officials informed the state's Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity of the closing in an April 8 WARN letter. The firm had planned to close the plant in late April or early May, but closed a couple weeks earlier after completing customers' orders.
A company spokesperson said the closing was the result of industry needs, location and market forces. The closing resulted in the loss of 29 jobs.
“Mitsubishi has plant capacity elsewhere and will be utilizing those,” the spokesperson said.
According to the MCA website, the Warren plant was part of the firm's performance polymers unit, which makes compounds based on PVC, thermoplastic elastomers, bioplastics and other materials. The Charlotte, N.C.-based unit also operates compounding plants in Bellevue, Ohio; Greer, S.C.; Wilmington, Mass.; and Atibaia, Brazil.
The company is a unit of global chemicals giant Mitsubishi Chemical Corp. of Tokyo.
