Total Corbion PLA rebrands as TotalEnergies Corbion
In the wake of Total’s name change earlier this year to TotalEnergies, Total Corbion PLA, the 50/50 joint venture between TotalEnergies and Corbion, has announced that it is now following suit. The company is rebranding as TotalEnergies Corbion and will launch a new company name and logo over the coming months in a phased approach starting in January.
TotalEnergies Corbion is headquartered in the Netherlands and operates a 75,000 metric tons per year of polylactic acid production in Rayong, Thailand. The company celebrated a milestone in the summer, reaching a cumulative production volume of 100 kilotonnes of its proprietary Luminy PLA at this plant.
Its Luminy PLA portfolio, which includes both high heat and standard PLA grades, is used in a wide range of markets from packaging to consumer goods, fibers and automotive. The biodegradable and compostable functionalities of PLA make it the material of choice for a wide range of markets and applications including fresh fruit packaging, food service ware, durable consumer goods, toys and 3D printing.
The company has also entered the engineering stage for a second facility in Grandpuits, France, in response to the growing PLA market demand.
Luminy PLA resins from TotalEnergies Corbion are bio-based and made from annually renewable resources, offering a reduced carbon footprint versus many traditional plastics. At the end of its useful life, PLA products can be mechanically or chemically recycled, an area the company has also recently become active in with the launch of Luminy rPLA: the world’s first commercially available chemically recycled bioplastics product.
