Consultation – your view on promoting EU algae production - Bio-based News -
Algae have been part of human lives throughout the world for centuries, if not longer. Some species even have a strong symbolic meaning, evoking wishes of long-lasting relationships and friendship – which makes them the perfect Christmas gift!
The more we learn about algae, the more opportunities we discover. They are a resource of highly nutritious food and feed, but also serve as a feedstock for pharmaceuticals, bioplastics, fertilisers and biofuels – all at a low environmental and climate impact. Needless to say that they are a perfect match for the Commission’s long-term growth strategy, the European Green Deal.
However, with 376 companies and around 4000 people active in algae production, the industry in Europe is scarcely out of the egg.
Therefore, the European Commission is determined to raise the profile of algae in Europe and would like to hear your views on its first ideas.
Until 18 January 2021, we welcome your opinion on our roadmap, which presents a number of possible policy options and lists the economic, social and environmental impact of more algae production in Europe.
