A Biochar?Based Composite Hydrogel Microenvironment for Enhanced Biocatalysis (Adv. Mater. 26/2026)
Biochar?Based Composite Hydrogels for Enhanced BiocatalysisIn their Research Article (DOI: 10.1002/adma.202517616), Jun Li and co?workers report the synthesis of a polyacrylamide hydrogel wherein biomass?derived biochar is co?encapsulated with the enzyme horseradish peroxidase (HRP). The resulting composite hydrogels possess balanced electron?rich and electron?deficient domains, creating an optimal microenvironment that concentrates both hydrogen peroxide and phenol molecules near the HRP, leading to dramatically enhanced biocatalytic oxidation efficiency.
