Current Progress in Ion-Sensitive-Field-Effect-Transistor for Diagnostic and Clinical Biomedical Applications

Electronic detection of pH is a promising field for the efficient detection of biological substances. The presence of such substances can be used to detect many crucial parameters. With the advancement of nanotechnology, device engineering, and its fabrication is tremendously achieving heights. The paper discusses the ion-sensitive pH sensor by considering the recent going trends associated with device configurations, material usage for an efficient sensing device, and its various device configurations. In this review, the fundamental detection principle and fabrication flow is presented for electrochemical pH-sensing along with the applications of this device in the diagnostic domain. The review is concluded by (i) mentioning some of the key challenges and (ii) providing a future perspective toward improved pH sensors that can be integrated with the latest techniques for the highly efficient biosensor.
