Study on aging resistance and micro characteristics of bio-asphalt/TLA composite modified asphalt binder
With the development of road engineering, non-renewable petroleum asphalt binder is increasingly scarce. It is of great significance to replace part of petroleum asphalt binder with renewable biological asphalt binder in road engineering for sustainable social development. To solve the shortcomings of poor aging resistance of bio-asphalt, 25% of Trinidad Lake Asphalt (TLA) is added into different contents of bio-asphalt modified asphalt binder in this paper to prepare bio-asphalt/TLA composite modified asphalt binder to improve its aging resistance. Then physical property tests, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) tests, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM) tests are conducted to study the aging resistance and mechanism. The physical property test shows that compared with petroleum asphalt binder, the bio-asphalt/TLA composite modified asphalt binder has lower softening point increment, viscosity aging index, complex modulus aging index and higher residual penetration; The micro test shows that the order of CI growth rate of 6 asphalt binder from large to small is: O > 12B/T > 9B/T > 6B/T > 3B/T > T; Biological asphalt binder, TLA and petroleum asphalt binder have good compatibility and can form a new and more stable system. Bio-asphalt/TLA composite modified asphalt binder has good anti-aging performance.
